Sure, take a stand. Stand for
something. Get in on the action while you can. Cash in on the latest
CULTural crusade. Or, better yet, just stand on your own. Know your own
principles, your own set of scruples - without necessarily being sucked
into this or that group's mindless milieu.
Remember that when you join any society that at first appears to reflect your every ideal, set of standards, morals, (or lack there of), that many people within that group may simply be hiding - clamoring for the cold comfort that is usually promised with the whole "safety in numbers" routine.
Also remember that there are literally millions of people everywhere who are just daring you to either embrace their extreme ideology, or are simply pushing you (unknowingly, inadvertently or otherwise) to stand in extreme opposition to their own, usually one sided stance on things.
And think about it; if you do go down any road that may in fact have been tailor made for someone else - or often by default, the diametrically opposed path that others may also be goading you to take - you may eventually have to stop and ask yourself, who's really trying to pull my puppet strings? Who's pulling out all the stops to push my buttons? And just exactly why?
To be sure, CULTural programming can have a number of positive attributes. This writer is merely suggesting that we must ALL (eastern or western) be forever vigilant and self aware, so that none of us gets inadvertently (or otherwise) drawn into any potentially harmful groups with the usual single mind agendas, that can be damaging, both to ourselves and/or others who may not happen to share all of our own specific views.
Simply put; don't fall into the trap of getting too bogged down in any social, political, ethnocentric and/or CULTurally lopsided crusade, such as _____________.
And that's it, in a nutshell. And yes, all this really ought to be common sense, something that everyone just KNOWS. But is it? Does everyone really know? Are we ALL always ever mindful? Are we all always ever vigilant? History... hell, the HERE and NOW suggests that it's quite the contrary. And will this mindless, co-dependent leader/follower routine ever end? Will mankind as a whole ever truly be free to practice genuine self determination, free from the mindless herd mentality?
Whatever the case may be, most of all, remember that any extremist ideology comes to an eventual dead end. Because every battery has a positive AND a negative side. Every coin has a heads and a tails. Every GOD/DOG has his day. And I promise you one thing: NOBODY IS ALWAYS RIGHT ALL THE TIME ABOUT EVERYTHING. Because continually flying in circles, powered by only your left or right wing, just sends a person into an eventual downward spiral. And that's not just common sense, but one of the most basic rules of avionics.
And that's just how it is in the non-polarized real world. Because it also occurs to me that, whether the east likes the west, or the north despises the south, and each continually plot the other's demise, the hard, cold, scientific fact of the matter is that, if you cut the Earth we all inhabit in two, just to spite the side you don't like, those two separate but EQUAL parts would soon spin out of control, and eventually, simply die.
